I spent some time this summer in the family home in Normandy, among some of my oldest friends. One of them is a big britpop fan and we spent evenings talking about how awesome guitar tracks from the 60s sounded. These jangly tones, the simpler beats, the naiveté of it all.
I love this song by The La’s. They are a Liverpool band from the 80s, and had a small hit in the 90s with There She Goes. It’s a marvel of pop songwriting, straight out of the 60s. Think Beatles-esque vocal harmony and guitar – bass conterpoint. It is the kind of songs you leave in repeat for a month.[Pay no attention to the “US Version” label, it’s clearly been shot in Liverpool.]
